I went to Sforno a couple of times recently. The first time was with a group of friends on a Saturday afternoon. It was quite busy when we showed up, despite the late lunch hour, with a line out the door. Fortunately, the line didn't move too slowly and the staff were friendly and patient. By the time we ordered, we were able to snag some seats indoors. FYI, the indoor tables only seat about 2 people (maybe 3 for the table at the end), while the outdoor tables are a little more spacious.<br><br>I was looking forward to trying the folded/wallet pizza (pizza a portafoglio). There are fewer topping options for it, but that's probably a good thing so you're not dropping toppings everywhere! The second time I visited was with my husband—it was less busy (still a Saturday), and we shared a mortadella pizza. Both times the staff were helpful and warm, even chatting with us in Italian, and the wait times for our orders felt reasonable.<br><br>The pizzas I've tried have all been so good, with a soft, chewy crust that would be a shame to leave behind, even if you're not usually a crust-eating person. The Hayes Valley location is super convenient, too, making it easy to turn a visit into a fun afternoon in the neighborhood. Already looking forward to heading back soon!

The portafoglio margherita pizza used to be fantastic. I’m not sure what happened this time but my pizza crust was mostly burnt and the pizza center was very wet/oily that it started falling apart and getting messy. I had to set it down and eat it with a fork and knife, which defeats the entire purpose of a portafoglio. The cheese and sauce taste great, just some improvements need to be made! Also, staff is too serious and needs to be more friendly. The atmosphere was very awkward.
I ordered a pizza via DoorDash and even though it wasn’t hot anymore, it was the best pizza I’ve had in the Bay Area

Tastes good but buyer beware: street pizza is a MESS. Get a LOT of napkins!
Keep it folded. Fight the urge to open it. It really is better folded.<br><br>They know what they are doing. Delish.
