We were there yesterday, December 20, 2025, with a group of 43 people...the food was excellent, the waiters were super friendly...and honestly, eating in a restaurant with an open kitchen...that is, visible to customers is unheard of for many, and it's the first time I've experienced it in many years. I recommend it 100%.

I found myself in this place for a work event (hairdressing). I was wonderfully impressed by the location and by the owner, Mr. Vincenzo, and his very kind staff!!! The food was super good! 5 stars ⭐️ top 👍

The location is truly fantastic, nestled among the uneven terrain of Matera, with its stone stairs and ramps! The lush greenery, the beautifully crafted tables and chairs, and the stunning courtyard. Inside, a dreamy space carved into the rock! The staff were incredibly kind and friendly, making us feel right at home...
But let's get to the food! Truly original, flavorful dishes, with bold and spectacular combinations. For example, orecchiette with cod, nduja, black olives, and smoked provola... who would have thought of such a combination? And yet it turns out spectacular (the dish is called Mental Journey). The other dishes were also truly fantastic, by the way. Prices and portions are right, everything is fair. I highly recommend it! A top restaurant.

We went to this restaurant for lunch with a couple of friends, and the food was truly delicious. From the appetizers to the first and second courses, the dishes were excellent, carefully and expertly prepared and looked inviting. And to finish, you couldn't resist the desserts, truly delicious in flavor and meticulously presented. The hospitality of Mr. Vincenzo, the owner, and the entire staff at the San Pietro Barisano restaurant was excellent. The quality-price ratio was truly excellent. Highly recommended.

Beautiful place and delicious food!
For dinner, only the Grand Carte menu is available (viewable on the website), which includes:
- one course for €20
- two courses for €35
- three courses for €50
To get there, since GPS can easily go wrong, I recommend this route:
From Piazza Vittorio Veneto, take Via San Biagio (leaving Palazzo dell'Annunziata, the one with the clock, behind you, continue practically straight) until you reach the 365 Storie children's bookshop (on the left). A few steps ahead, on the right, you'll see a staircase leading down into the Sassi district, signposted Rione S. Biagio. Take the path that leads down into the Sassi district, keeping first to the left and then to the right, towards Casa Cava.

I've read a few reviews that were very different from my experience at this place. I don't know if anything has changed, but I can't say anything negative about a place like this.
We ate wonderfully, in a charming location, and at a price that would tempt anyone. The service was excellent. What more could you ask for?
My only advice: it's not easy to find for those unfamiliar with the area. If, like me, you have trouble locating the place, don't rely on GPS; call directly, and they'll kindly explain how to get there.

Booked thanks to a TheFork promotion, it was a superb discovery. Refined dishes, amidst the white stone houses of Matera.

Fantastic experience in Matera. We discovered this restaurant thanks to The Fork and will definitely visit again on our next visit to this fantastic city. Excellent service, beautiful and characteristic location nestled in the rock. Excellent food, refined combinations and perfect presentation, it felt like being in a Michelin-starred restaurant.
Reasonable prices; without The Fork discount, the price would have been equally reasonable for what we had.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

A refined restaurant nestled in the Sassi of Matera
A refined and elegant atmosphere, featuring a fantastic open kitchen.
The dishes offered are equally worthy of the location.
The first courses (Capri and Umami) are excellent, with flavors from the Mediterranean tradition and a more refined and sophisticated approach, respectively.
We also sampled the fava bean puree, with its "taste and texture," which highlighted the excellent local ingredients.
The final treat is a delicious revisited tiramisu.
The staff is very kind and attentive.
Highly recommended for those who love good food and enjoy it in a hidden and refined corner.

The octopus was good, even if small. The chicory and broad beans were good. The meat was excellent and well cooked, but it was also... limited. I didn't want the dishes to be overflowing, but I was satisfied with the quality and, why not, even a little quantity, given the rather unpopular prices. Overall, however, it was an excellent restaurant.
