We vacationed in Oro Hotel Policoro in late September and early October. We went to this restaurant for lunch and dinner. The interior is very simple, nothing fancy. But the owner was pleasant and friendly. A meal was about 14 euros. It was delicious, everything was fresh. Excellent coffee. I recommend it. The owner gave us a set of sun loungers for 10 euros. The atmosphere is extremely spartan, bordering on decadent. The owner is a bit rude. Otherwise, the young woman is exceptionally polite and kind. You eat on paper placemats (which feature the generic menu, while the daily menu is on a chalkboard), so the €2.50 cover charge is decidedly exorbitant. It would have been fair if there had been a nice white cotton tablecloth, without the plastic plant on every table. The beautiful sea view, however, makes up for the obvious shortcomings. The appetizer was meager, so it's a poor value for money. The spaghetti with clams was exceptional (perhaps the best I've ever eaten). Fried fish was good, but not much. Dessert was decent. The service was good at first, but then they lost interest, but both dining rooms were full. The bill was more or less fair, but they could have offered coffee.
The spaghetti with clams was excellent, while the seafood cavatelli seemed to have been reheated in the microwave. The mixed fried fish was average.
I had lunch and dinner there today. Fantastic value, rustic and familiar atmosphere, impeccable, discreet, and punctual service. You really couldn't ask for better. 5/5
Great experience
We stumbled upon it by chance, but it was a great experience. It's not very well-kept from the outside, but it is inside. The staff is also very friendly and professional, always ready to offer advice. Excellent dishes made with fresh, quality ingredients. Definitely worth a try.
