Yesterday I had lunch with my partner at Grotta Aurelia, a seafood restaurant on the Via Aurelia just outside Civitavecchia.
I already knew the place, with its splendid seaside location, but I had never had the chance to stop for dinner. It was a delightful discovery.
We ate really well, from the tuna meatballs to the tonnarelli with octopus and pecorino cheese, to the paccheri with fish sauce. The dishes were tasty, accompanied by good wine and attentive, friendly service.
The lemon sorbet at the end also deserves a special mention, expertly prepared by the lady who runs the place with her daughter, a perfect end to lunch.
The beautiful sunny day made everything even more enjoyable, but the credit for the experience goes to the staff who welcomed us with such warmth and professionalism, and to those in the kitchen who prepared such delicious dishes.
We had a wonderful time and will gladly return.

After we were assigned a seat, nothing else happened. We left frustrated. Thanks for nothing.

We returned for the umpteenth time, and once again, this restaurant did not disappoint.

The location is certainly one of its strong points: a true stilt house directly on the sea, with a spectacular view and a unique, evocative atmosphere. The setting is informal yet very romantic, especially for those who love dining with the sea all around.

We started with seafood panzanella and tuna tartare, both truly excellent. Next, we chose shrimp ravioli and paccheri with fish ragù: well-cooked, tasty dishes made with quality ingredients. The fish was fresh, and the portions were absolutely adequate.

The service was also top-notch: friendly, polite, and helpful staff, with reasonable wait times and a very pleasant welcome.

The bill, €95, seemed reasonable considering the quality of the cuisine and, above all, the unique location.

It's a restaurant we gladly return to and continue to recommend. A wonderful experience for those seeking good seafood, a relaxed atmosphere, and a truly enchanting location right on the sea.

Reading the reviews, I had a different impression of the place. The location is truly charming, set in an old stilt house, but I found it poorly maintained. It needs a good coat of stucco and paint, and the lamps need replacing because they're rusty. The iron tables, also rusty, weren't covered with tablecloths (which would have been better) but with paper placemats. The cloth napkins were poorly washed. I found the service inattentive and the owner unfriendly. The dishes were well-presented. The seafood panzanella appetizer and grilled seafood appetizer were decent, the pasta with clams was bland, and the fried fish was good. I was happy to find fruit at the end of the meal. This isn't a given in many restaurants.
The prices are high despite the decidedly informal setting. I wanted to organize a birthday party here, but after seeing people in swimsuits having lunch after a swim, I thought better of it. The photos give a different idea.

Buonasera Cinzia,

A magnificent atmosphere on the stilt house. Excellent food: spectacular mussels, wonderful fried calamari. Very friendly staff, reasonable prices for the quality. Beautiful presentation. A small flaw with the service... the young waitresses were perhaps a little tired due to the heat. This was our second lunch there and we'll definitely be back. We recommend it.

A real discovery! Grotta Aurelia is one of those restaurants where you immediately feel like you're in the right place. The atmosphere is truly pleasant, the staff are kind, helpful, and attentive, and above all, the cuisine is excellent.

Carefully prepared dishes, quality ingredients, and memorable flavors. Each course lived up to expectations, with an excellent balance between tradition and meticulous presentation.

Impeccable service, impeccable timing, and the perfect atmosphere for a lovely evening, whether as a couple or with friends.

Compliments to all the staff and the kitchen! A restaurant I absolutely recommend to anyone looking for quality, courtesy, and good food in Civitavecchia. We'll definitely be back! 👏🍽️

Beautiful private beach next to the port. You can snorkel and see fish, albatrosses on the shore add to the charm. You can rent sunbeds and umbrellas for 7 euros per person. Delicious coffee. We had a great day here

Above-average location. Elegant welcome with ever-smiling waiters who escort guests directly to their table on the stilt house suspended over the sea. Then, the sunset accompanied by superb seafood cuisine. Your order is taken just five minutes after sitting down.
The deliciousness of the dishes is astonishing.
Ideal for those who want to enjoy the sound of the sea and savor it while eating.
The best place to live your dream.
Thank you

We had a really good time. For our appetizer, we tried the tuna meatballs, which were truly delicious and highly recommended.
The tonnarello with octopus and pecorino cheese was truly unique and flavorful, and to finish, the chocolate millefeuille, simply delicious. Everything was delicious, the service was friendly and competent, and the atmosphere in the stilt house was truly delightful. We'll definitely be back! Highly recommended for a pleasant evening and truly delicious food.

Fantastic location. I went for dinner with two friends. We treated ourselves to a wide variety of dishes. I especially enjoyed the octopus alla Luciana as an appetizer, which was truly delicious. For the first course, I had tonnarello with fresh lobster. Outstanding!! Next up was a generous mixed grill accompanied by various fruits, and finally, a beautiful millefeuille with cream and chocolate. In addition to the welcoming, friendly, and expert service, the cuisine did not disappoint; on the contrary, it provided an unforgettable experience.
